Active Sensing

Ubicept’s active sensing solutions precisely synchronize advanced sensors with light sources, enhancing current applications and unlocking techniques once considered science fiction.

Maximum versatility

Active sensing approaches integrate sensors and light sources to capture data about objects and environments. Our Flexible Light Acquisition and Representation Engine (FLARE) enables all these techniques, along with passive ones, to be built around the same advanced sensors.
By doing so, Ubicept can eliminate the need for distinct, specialized devices within your perception system, streamlining integration and reducing the complexities associated with sensor fusion.
Here, we’ve only outlined a sampling of what FLARE can accomplish when paired with SPAD sensors. Please reach out to us if you have other applications in mind!

Photometric Stereo

Photometric stereo techniques capture shape information by illuminating objects from multiple angles. FLARE and SPAD sensors can minimize motion artifacts with ultra-high frame rates, enabling accurate capture of shapes and textures in dynamic scenes.

Gated Imaging

Gated imaging techniques use precise timing to enable lighting at specific distances. They’re often used to minimize contrast loss when imaging through fog, rain, smoke, and snow. FLARE and SPAD sensors can be configured to perform this efficiently.

Surface Inspection

Surface inspection techniques use acutely angled lights to reveal details and imperfections often missed with diffuse lighting. FLARE and SPAD sensors enable fast, high-resolution scans, capturing these features clearly even in highly dynamic environments.

Structured Light

Structured light techniques project patterns onto surfaces to capture extremely precise 3D shape information. FLARE and SPAD sensors enable high-speed, accurate pattern detection, allowing clear 3D scans even when the object or camera is in motion.

Time of Flight

Time-of-flight techniques for 3D imaging are common and widely available, but FLARE and SPAD sensors can enhance their versatility by capturing depth and intensity frames almost simultaneously. This ensures perfectly aligned data, even in highly dynamic conditions.

Redefining vision for every application

Ubicept’s groundbreaking technologies unify active sensing and passive vision, enabling camera systems to achieve unmatched levels of precision, synchronization, and reliability in a multitude of industries.

Future flexibility

Beyond their versatility, Ubicept’s active sensing solutions offer exceptional flexibility, empowering innovation across a range of industries and applications. Our latest system demonstrates indirect perception, a novel technique that detects objects even when they’re obscured from direct view. This is just one example of the endless possibilities enabled by FLARE and SPAD sensors.
