Limits of AI-based methods

There are many solutions which process frames from conventional cameras using AI. These can produce impressive results for applications like artistic video enhancement, but they risk missing or even hallucinating critical details because they generate information not present in the original data.

New sensors, old pipelines

Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors can capture data with zero read noise, but treating their outputs like conventional frames discards important information due to bandwidth constraints in the pipeline. This leads to issues similar to those found with more conventional approaches.

Optimized photon capture

Ubicept’s unified solution uses our Flexible Light Acquisition and Representation Engine (FLARE) to encode rich photon streams from SPADs, producing bandwidth-efficient, application-specific outputs that preserve all the necessary information for accurate computer vision downstream.

The future is now

SPADs may seem futuristic, but they’re already here today. Higher-resolution SPADs are currently used for specialized applications due to higher costs from lower production volumes. However, since they can be manufactured with the same processes and materials as conventional sensors, they can be nearly as economical at scale. Furthermore, the inclusion of lower-resolution SPADs in vehicles, robots, and even smartphones demonstrates both their versatility and market acceptance.
So, it’s not a question of if you should consider SPADs for your computer vision applications, but how to best leverage these sensors as they become ubiquitous for perception tasks. Ubicept is uniquely positioned to help you unlock their full capabilities and stay ahead of the curve.

Our approach to partnerships

Building a unified system can involve significant investment, so we streamline the process with initial consultations and joint development projects. These phases represent a typical roadmap, but we’ll tailor our approach to fit your goals.

PHASE 1

Can our technology meet your needs?

We start by determining whether our technology can benefit your application. This may involve deploying development kits or using your existing cameras. We process and analyze this data to ensure that the results meet your requirements.
PHASE 2

Is large-scale implementation practical?

We then assess the practicality of larger-scale implementations. This includes conducting feasibility studies, simulating pipeline components to predict performance, and evaluating tradeoffs for size, weight, power, and cost constraints.

PHASE 3

How do we make this a reality?

Finally, we work with your team to bring the system to production. This may involve using our components directly or integrating our intellectual property more deeply. Together, we ensure smooth deployment and maximum value.
